Summary/Objective

STACK is looking for a Senior System Data Center Engineer (APAC) and is responsible for managing deployment of existing and new Server and Network infrastructure for Data Centres in Malaysia. Reporting to Senior manager, ICT Engineering in Operational Technology team, he/she will support ICT design, delivery and operational management of our Data centres in Malaysia. Taking lead in all ICT matters, supporting in-country project team in developing and maintaining accurate ICT project timelines, mapping concurrent and sequential project activities, critical path, identifying key resources (internal and external) throughout each stage of the project delivery. This also includes identifying ICT managed service providers and managing them to meet day-to-day project delivery and test commissioning requirements. While reporting to the regional APAC team, you will be working in a flat team structure surrounded by industry leaders across all aspects of Data Centre and Real Estate Development.

This role is a hands-on position that requires collaboration and coordination with the Operational Technology, Critical Operations Team, Systems Vendors, Engineering Team, Delivery & Construction Team towards delivering resilient network and server infrastructure for our Data Centre Facility, and Security systems as well as corporate network. A good knowledge and hands-on experience in Cisco Enterprise networking solution and VMware vSphere Cluster solutions is a must.

Scope of Works

1. General

  • Be working side by side with our Regional and in-country teams to ensure the success of our projects mainly in Malaysia.
  • Works closely with various teams to ensure timely delivery of all tasks to ensure customers’ service level agreement are met.

2. Design & Engineering

  • Responsible for the development of a robust ICT design for each Data Centre and developing a robust operational strategy to manage and maintain those systems.
  • This includes design and implementation of highly available data centre architectures, including VMware ESXi virtualization and active-active SAN storage solutions to ensure robust, fault-tolerant operations.
  • Design and implement failover mechanisms and data replication strategies that achieve a zero RTO, ensuring seamless and immediate recovery of services in the event of an outage.
  • Manage ICT networks and systems, include but not limited to, all cross connect related requests, IT infra-structures and systems, such as Office IT, BMS, SCADA, Security Systems (Card Access, CCTV), Servers, Corp Wi-Fi for data centre offices
  • Work with the in-country teams to ensure compliance with all tools and templates including used in progress tracking and reporting, from Master Programme, Programme change management and Programme Risk management.
  • Review market best practice software platforms and tools and provide evaluation and recommendations for those that should be adopted by STACK Delivery APAC which will improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Collaborate in the continual development and refinement of our Project Delivery Playbook, Process, Tools/Platform and Basis of Design in conjunction with out SVP Engineering, APAC and the associated impact on construction / project schedules.
  • Work with ICT Consultant/other Consultants to review ICT, BMS, SCADA and Security design for Data Centre. When necessary, create high-level design principles, markups/ sketches, and reports as design direction to the consultants/ contractors.
  • Assist in developing resilient Server and Network engineering standards, guidelines, and Basis of Design (BOD).

3. Delivery/ Construction

  • Provide regular reporting to the APAC team on project timelines and progress, identifying potential gaps and risks to the business and project delivery and development recommendation to mitigate and make improvements.
  • Support the Project Delivery teams in tracking progress against project timelines and providing regular reporting during Project Control Meetings.
  • Collaborate with Project Directors and delivery teams to ensure appointed delivery consultants adhere to the STACK Programme Tools and Templates.
  • Assist in preparing ICT related Bill of Materials, evaluating supply and professional services project tender to ICT vendor and suppliers.
  • Assist to keep track of the physical installation progress of ICT CR cabinets, MMR Rooms, Fiber patching, cable containment by the General Contractor.
  • Coordinating with ICT Vendor to ensure the intended Compute and Network built design for the Campus is successfully deployed meeting project timeline.
  • Work with key technology partners to support the various internal teams in the delivery and commissioning of new projects.

4. Testing, Commissioning, and Turnover

  • Maintaining ICT server and network inventory, converting populated inventory spreadsheets into NetBox DCIM tool.
  • Assist in developing test scripts for both Server and Network infrastructure Test and Commissioning for ICT vendor to execute.
  • Work with ICT vendors on managing and reviewing all network and server configurations. This includes but not limited to:
  • ESXI Server host machines configured with VMware vSphere cluster
  • NetApp flash storage array
  • Veeam backup and replication software on backup server
  • Corporate Meraki and Engineering Palo Alto Firewalls
  • Cisco Internet Routers that are connected to dual ISPs
  • Cisco Corporate and Engineering Core network switches
  • Cisco Corporate and Engineering Access network switches
  • Field Industrial switches that are deployed by BMS/Security system vendor.
  • Cisco Meraki corporate Wireless Access Points
  • Conduct witness testing of Server and Network testing & commissioning with ICT vendors and help manage handover process to ICT Operation Team.
  • Document and follow-up defects and action lists.

5. Operations

  • Attend to breakdowns where necessary and/or work with specialist vendors to provide on-site support and eventually provide an RCA report of the issue
  • Be a point of escalation in Operational Technology team and provide advice to the local operation teams related to network or server infrastructure incidents/events affecting site operation.
  • Provide technical assistance/advice to the local Operations Team and maintenance vendors to troubleshoot and identify network and systems related issues.
  • Provide technical assistance/advice to the local Operations Team and maintenance vendors to ensure the system maintenance, planned restarts, firmware & software upgrades, and any planned activities are delivered exceeding standards including managing effective reports of the activities.

Required Technical Experience

  • 6-10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 5 years specifically in designing and managing enterprise VMware environments.
  • Experience in designing and implementing high available and fault tolerant VMware vSphere environment, including ESXi hosts, vCenter and associated components such as vMotion, HA, DRS and Distributed Switches.
  • Data Center Knowledge: Strong understanding of SAN/NAS storage, networking (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF), and hardware (UCS/HP).
  • Integrate SAN storage array solution from NetApp/ PureStorage/ Dell PowerStore with VMware for vSphere to manage datastores.
  • Perform storage provisioning, including LUN creation, zoning, masking, and volume management.
  • VMware Certified Associate (VCA)/ VMware Certified Professional (VCP) will be an added advantage
  • Experience with hybrid cloud solutions (VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure VMware Solution).
  • Strong technical background with Cisco Certification for Networking Systems (CCNP or higher).
  • Strong in Networking background managing Cisco Catalyst, Nexus and Meraki product line
  • Good knowledge in firewalls and configurations for Palo Alto and Fortinet as a minimum
  • Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high quality and business goals.

Required Work Experience

  • Must have at least six (6) to eight (8) years of hands-on technical experience in ICT project management, Network deployment or similar role working within Data Center or other related mission critical facilities.
  • Excellent understanding on ESX/ESXI Architecture with over 6 years’ experience in VMware administration, installation, configuration and maintenance
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in administering and managing ICT and Facility network preventative maintenance programs is preferred.
  • Worked with Windows Server and Linux operating systems
  • Understanding of structured cabling systems, being able to troubleshoot common problems related to Fiber optic and copper cabling systems.

Required Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Computer Science field.

  • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, late nights, holidays, and on-call support if required to.
  • Must be comfortable working in a high demand, fast paced environment with shifting priorities

Work Environment/Conditions & Travel

  • Reporting to work in STACK JHB01 Data Center Site office in Gelang Patah, Malaysia.
  • Travel to other STACK Data Centre facilities outside of Malaysia may be required from time to time.
